Jackson Mayor Chokwe Lumumba says he will seek re-election this year. He has until Friday at 5 p.m. to file the paperwork. That paperwork, though, could create additional evidence for the U.S. Attorney’s Office in its pending case against the embattled mayor. Lumumba could also find himself in hot water with state prosecutors and regulators.

BREAKING- THALIA MARA HALL FAILS FIRE INSPECTION, AGAIN!! WILL NOT REOPEN!

Throw another dollar in the Clay was right again tip jar!
JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) - The state’s top fire inspector says Thalia Mara Hall can’t safely reopen, following a walkthrough of the facility one day before it was slated to reopen.
On Thursday, the State Fire Marshal conducted a follow-up walkthrough of the 2,000-seat auditorium, months after it initially found 22 violations at the facility.
“While some fire safety issues have been fixed other issues are still being addressed. For example, fire curtains have not been installed; maintenance and inspection paperwork was not available for the elevator and escalators; the fire alarm system is showing trouble and there’s no timeline on when it may be fixed; the sprinkler system needs to be inspected and tested; and fire suppression tools need to be properly tagged,” the office wrote.
“When the City of Jackson (COJ) has addressed these safety concerns another walkthrough will be scheduled. The State Fire Marshal’s Office is committed to working with City of Jackson officials to protect the health and safety of the public and important cultural structures like Thalia Mara Hall.”
The hall closed in August after microbial growth was found in the facility. Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba said Thalia Mara was slated to reopen on Friday.
However, officials with Marshal Mike Chaney’s office say the report means the opening will be delayed again.
Jackson officials say they had not read the fire marshal’s report but will provide a statement once they review it and get feedback from contractors.

In episode #2 of my live podcast series, "Live, Raw, Uncut & Uncensored," I'm thrilled to have Brian Jones, the former lead singer of Lillian Axe and a celebrated solo artist, join me in my living room. This passion project combines the intimate feel of two old friends catching up, with live acoustic performances, creating a unique blend reminiscent of Joe Rogan's deep dives, VH-1 Storytellers' narratives, MTV Unplugged's vibe, and the raw energy of YouTube's Rebel Sessions. If you're from or around Jackson, Mississippi, and lived through the '80s, '90s, or 2000s, this show will resonate with you, offering both nostalgia and new music in a very local, friendly setting.

Wednesday Jan 29, 2025
Wednesday Jan 29, 2025
My good friend and self proclaimed "local entertainer" Phillip Yarbrough joins me as I experiment with a new show idea tonight, we just sat around drinking whiskey and talking about the local music scene, the politics surrounding it, what type of bands and / or artist are drawing crowds, what platforms are helping them draw and more. Phillip also plays us 4 great songs at the end of the show to cap off the nearly 3-hour conversation!! I can't promise that I'll do more shows like this because everyone isn't Phillip, but I had a great time doing it and based on the comments and text messages so did the live audience.
